For recent journalism graduates, the COVID-19 pandemic has shaped their entry into the news industry. Young MDJ alumni have focused much of their professional careers on the pandemic, mostly with a Northeast Ohio angle — not just on case numbers or other statistics, but also on the effects on the economy, businesses and the healthcare industry.

Seasoned Marketing Communications Executive Joins Media and Journalism Faculty
Kent State alumnus Mike Jackson, innovator and marketing communications executive, is joining 91²Ö¿â’s School of Media and Journalism as a professional-in-residence this spring. He is teaching two classes and will serve as adviser to the student organization Franklin Advertising.

The National Collegiate Honors Council has announced 91²Ö¿â Honors College graduate Sarah Hagglund as a 2021 Portz Scholar. Hagglund is the 10th honors student from 91²Ö¿â to be named a Portz Scholar since the national competition began in 1990.
Oboist Danna Sundet Rediscovers the Magic of Playing for Fun Amidst Crisis
It’s been a busy 2021 for Danna Sundet, 91²Ö¿â professor of oboe and alumna. Between performances and making recordings, running the John Mack Oboe Camp and starting a new venture on YouTube, Sundet has continued teaching a robust studio of young oboists at 91²Ö¿â and pursuing outside projects despite the challenges posed by Covid-19.

From now through Sunday, Sept. 19, Cockeye Creamery, located at 1805 1/2 Parkman Road NW in Warren, will be serving its 91²Ö¿â-inspired ice cream “Black Squirrel†to raise money for 91²Ö¿â at Trumbull’s Care Closet.
