The information below is provided to help keep families informed of communications sent to students throughout the year. The links represent broad communications sent to all, or most, residence hall students. The links do not include individual or hall specific emails that may be sent to students.

Academic Year 2026-2027 Contract Renewal Information 1/12/2026

Hello Residents,

This email is being sent to all students who currently live on campus. Please read and save this email as it outlines the process to sign up for on-campus housing for next year.

As a reminder, 91ֿ requires all students to live on campus during their first two years. This policy is in effect until a student attains junior class standing (60 credits) prior to the start of the fall semester; will turn 20 years old prior to the start of the fall semester; or has already lived on campus for four semesters. (If you have submitted any housing exemption documentation for 2026-27, please refer to the approval/denial email you would have received.)

If you are required to or wish to live on campus next year, you will have the opportunity to renew your residence hall contract online for the 2026-27 academic year. Beginning Wednesday, January 14 at 10am, you will be able to access next year’s.

Using the application, you will be able to make your $150 initial housing payment and $40 application fee; to request and confirm a roommate for next year; and to indicate whether you wish to renew a room in your current residence hall. Should you not wish to renew a room in your current residence hall for the 2026-2027 academic year, you will be able to return to your application in March and select a new room for next year.

Mid-February, you will also receive a more specific email with additional details on the contract renewal process. This email will inform you of your Room Selection Timeslot – this determines when you are first able to go online in March and select a room (if you do not wish to return to your current assignment). We determine your room selection timeslot based on a number of factors, including what your class standing will be at the end of the current academic year.

Students will be placed in a contract renewal group based on their class standing as of the end of the academic year. The contract renewal groups will select rooms with those students who will have 30-59 credit hours at the end of the academic year selecting first. The next group of students will be those that will have 1-29 credit hours at the end of the academic year. The third group of students will include those that will have 60 plus credit hours and graduate students.

A randomized process will be used to assign a timeslot where each student within each of the contract renewal groups will be able to log into the housing portal in March to self-select a room for next year. Once your start time has begun, you will be able to log in and look for open rooms until April 4th.

Please take time to review the website. The information provided will address details about the process and will answer most of the specific questions that you may have. This includes a listing of changes occurring in any residence hall facilities. If you have questions that are not answered in the guide, please send an email to .

We wish you a successful spring semester at 91ֿ!

Sincerely,

University Housing

Fire Safety Room Inspections 9/19/25

Dear Residence Hall Students,

We are emailing today with some information about Fire Safety. Fire Safety room inspections will take place between September 22 - September 28, 2025. Please read below to learn more about inspections.

Fire Safety Inspections
Between September 22 - September 28, University Housing’s Resident Assistants (RAs) will complete Fire Safety Room Inspections. Fire Safety Room Inspections are intended to help promote safety and fire prevention awareness in the halls.

At least 24 hours beforehand, your RA will let you know the dates and times between September 22-28 when they plan to complete Fire Safety Room Inspections on your floor. Your RA and another RA from your community will complete the inspection. If you are home during the inspection, please resolve any fire safety concerns that the RAs bring to your attention. If you are not home during your inspection, a physical form will be left in your room letting you know if any violations were found, and those violations must be fixed before re-inspections occur.

If there were any violations found during the initial inspections, our staff will come back to your room between October 6 – October 12, 2025, to make sure the item is removed/fixed. Failure to fix this violation before re-inspections on October 6th may result in referral to conduct.

Fire safety violations that we frequently see and ask to be corrected are listed below:

  • Candles/Incense (even if they are not lit)
  • Non-UL approved extension cords/power strips
  • Doors covered with decorations or combustible materials
  • Items hung from ceiling
  • Hanging curtains or sheets from lofted beds
  • Flags, posters or other decorations in windows-no decorations shall interfere with visibility or egress in windows
  • Furniture blocking window-furniture blocks egress in case of need of evacuation
  • Furniture or other property within 2 feet of room’s HVAC input/output vents-this can interfere with air circulation

Residents are expected to fix these violations as well as any other violations that are listed in the . RAs will only look for fire safety concerns that are in plain view. If you have any questions about this process, please check with your RA, Assistant Residence Hall Director, or Residence Hall Director.

Do You Have A Prohibited Item?
Are you reviewing our policies and see something on our prohibited item list that you currently have in your room? We encourage you to remove the item from your room and to not bring it back to campus. Fall Break will be October 2 – October 5, and students are encouraged to remove these items during this Break.

Are you not able to remove the prohibited item yet? Perhaps you live far away and can’t quite take it home yet- we get it! If this is the case, we invite you to visit Safety and Community Care in Tri Towers Rotunda room 105 between the hours of 12pm-4am any day of the week. Safety and Community Care will be able to store most items for you, until you’re able to go home next. Items will be stored through the fall semester, and Safety and Community Care will talk you through this timeline when you bring the item. Some items that are an immediate fire concern will not be able to be stored by Safety and Community Care (grills, gasoline, etc.) but most will be able to be stored temporarily.

Emergency Contact Information - 8/22/2025

Greetings, residence hall students,

I want to be among the first to say – Welcome Home!

As you get settled in, please take a moment to respond to this request for an update to your student account.

The request is prompted by the reauthorized Higher Education Act of 2008, which requires colleges and universities to:

  • Inform students that they have the option to identify an individual to be contacted by the institution within 24 hours after the time the student is determined missing.
  • Provide a means for students to register confidential contact information in the event the student is determined to be missing for a period of 24 hours.

You are encouraged to provide the university contact information for the person(s) you want to be notified in the event of an emergency.

To register confidential contact information for someone to be contacted in the event of an emergency (including a report that you are missing), please follow these instructions:

  • Log in to your FlashLine account and click on the “Settings” link on the left-hand side or, on mobile devices, by expanding the menu from the top navigation bar to edit your account profile.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page, where you will find: Secure Account Access
  • Then select: Emergency Contacts
  • Select one of the options, then either edit the existing information in your emergency contact address or input the contact information for the person you want to be contacted in the event of an emergency.

If you are reported missing, the institution will notify the appropriate law enforcement agency within 24 hours after you are determined missing. Additionally, 91ֿ will initiate contact with the emergency contact person you have designated in your FlashLine account.

Roommate/Suitemate Agreements - 8/19/25

Greetings

Communication is essential to a positive, working relationship with any roommate or suitemates.  To facilitate this process, it is important to address potential problem areas before they become a problem. By discussing potential living concerns in the Roommate Agreement, roommates will begin to develop the kind of relationship that is conducive to positive academic, community, and personal growth. This process will also reduce or eliminate the possibility of conflict and increase communication between roommates.

Roommates do not need to be best friends, but it helps if they are fair, honest, and considerate with one another. Every resident needs to take responsibility for their own behavior and to share responsibility for the roommate relationship. Establishing ground rules that everyone can live with requires work, but the benefit of creating good relationships makes it worthwhile. Even if lifelong friendship between roommates is not established, learning to live with each other’s differences without infringing on one another’s freedom is a valuable part of your education.

You and your roommate are individuals with unique interests, goals, likes and dislikes. You may not find it necessary to share every aspect of college life with them. If conflicts do arise, speak with your roommate in person first; talk a problem through before it becomes a major conflict. If, after having talked with your roommate, you still can’t resolve the conflict, talk with your RA or Residence Life staff. Your hall staff is experienced in dealing with roommate problems and should be able to give you some sound advice.

Roommate/Suitemate Agreements can be accessed by following this  or clicking the button below. Once completed, your RA will reach out to you to review your agreement!

Sincerely,
University Housing
