Cares

Crisis, Advocacy, Resources, Education, and Support. (CARES)

The CARES Center’s mission is to deliver compassionate, coordinated support that addresses students’ basic needs through advocacy, education, and resource connection, empowering students to persist and achieve their educational goals. A case manager assists students by providing emergency housing options, either on-campus or off-campus.

Eligibility: 

  • Must be a Kent student experiencing a housing emergency
  • Must meet with a CARES care manager

Miller Community House

Miller Community House

Provides 30-day emergency shelter and supportive services to people experiencing a housing crisis. 

Eligibility: 

  • Must be homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
  • Must be sober and not actively suicidal, psychotic, or homicidal
  • Last residence must have been in Portage County

Housing and Emergency Support Services

Housing and Emergency Support Services provides an individualized plan to help those in a housing emergency. 

Eligibility: 

  • Must have received an eviction notice, be currently homeless, or need support to resolve a housing emergency.

Portage Area Transitional Housing (PATH)

Portage Area Transitional Housing provides case management, temporary housing, and other services to promote financial stability, find permanent housing, and increase empowerment. 

Eligibility: 

  • Must meet with an advocate to discuss and carry out the plan for permanent housing.

Safer Futures

Safer Futures

Safer Futures provides a safe place in an undisclosed location for survivors of domestic violence. Offers a 24/7 hotline for

survivors of domestic violence. 

Eligibility: 

  • Must be actively attempting to escape an abusive relationship.
