Professional development for teachers and electives for current 91²Ö¿â students of any major. Offered for credit or as a non-credit workshop (Continuing Education Units). Classes meet in Kent’s Center for Performing Arts; housing and parking available.

AOSA Teacher Education Courses – Levels I, II, & III
10 Days of Instruction: June 22-26 and June 29-July 3, 8:30am-5:00pm
3 credits/6 Continuing Education Units
Featuring American Orff-Schulwerk Assoc. certified instructors in pedagogy, recorder, and movement, these courses are sequenced to introduce you to the Orff-Schulwerk approach and how to apply it to the general music or choral classroom. This course is ideal for educators who want to make music learning more interactive and creative.
Engaging Students with Disabilities using Percussion and Movement: A Special Need for Music
July 6-10, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
3 credits/5 Continuing Education Units
This course is appropriate for anyone who works with people with learning differences. We will focus on hands-on percussion and recorded music in an interactive group setting. It is not necessary to have an academic music background to be successful.
Movement and Folk Dance using Weikart’s Approach
July 13-17, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
3 credits/5 Continuing Education Units
An introduction to Phyllis Weikart’s approach to international folk dance and using movement to teach any concept. Appropriate for preservice and in-service educators (music, physical education, and others) who are looking for hands-on, active experiences.
A Music Learning Theory Approach to Choral Music
10 Days of Instruction: July 13-17, and July 20-24, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
3 credits/6 Continuing Education Units
The newest curriculum from GIML, this course applies Gordon’s Music Learning Theory to the Choral Classroom, taught by GIML certified instructors. This course explores a research-based approach to music acquisition, as implemented in a K-12 choral setting.
