Gems & Jams
- At this tabling event, located in Risman Plaza, students can make positivity bracelets while listening to music. Students will be provided with information about CAPS and promotional materials will be made available.

College Scoop: Trivia & Treats with the Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC)
- Kick off your semester with a sweet start. Join the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) for free ice cream and a fun round of college trivia designed just for new students.
- Whether you’re confident about college hacks or still figuring things out, this is your chance to win prizes, learn helpful tips, and connect with resources that will support you all year long.
- Stop by, meet the EOC team, and get the scoop on how we can help you navigate financial aid, scholarships, career planning, and more. Your college journey just got smoother.

Golden Hour Bash
- After moving into your residence hall, what better way to start your journey as a Golden Flash than with music, fun games, and ice cream?
- This event will feature University Culinary Services’ renowned Golden Frost Swirl ice cream, music by DJ Smoov, yard games galore, a chance to meet your peers and student leaders on campus, and much more fun!

Global Block Party
- The annual Global Block Party is back! Join the Office of Global Education to celebrate the start of the school year with tie-dye t-shirts, music, and fun games!
- This event will take place from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the lawn in front of Van Campen Hall.
CARES Center Welcome to Campus Fueling Station
- Campus Coffee Bar will provide iced coffee and snacks to welcome students to campus.
- This event will take place from 2:30 - 5 p.m. at 106 Kent Student Center (CARES Center).
KSU Kickoff Check-In (Residential Students)
- This event is required for all first-year students living in the residence halls. This is your opportunity to learn about the KSU Kickoff schedule and meet with a Peer Success Mentor (PSM) to get your questions answered. Students should attend this event based on their personal availability between the hours 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. Check-in times are not assigned; however, attendance will be recorded upon student arrival.
- For only first-year, 91ֿ students living on-campus, in a residence hall. Commuting students will be required to attend a different check-in session on Aug. 16, 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. (more details can be found in the app and KSU Kickoff website). First-year, 91ֿ transfer students will be required to instead attend the Transfer Student Welcome on Aug. 17, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. (more details can be found in the app).
Fall in a Flash
- Still have last-minute business to take care of before classes start? After you check in for KSU Kickoff (as a residential student on Aug. 14), just come to the Kent Student Center Dining Room (room 218) to get help. We will have several offices available to assist you with questions related to your scholarships, student loans, billing payment information, class registration/advising, military-connected benefits, student accessibility services, and transfer of credits, etc.

Honors College Welcome Event
- The Honors College would like to invite you to their welcome event to meet peers and Honors mentors.
- They will serve ice cream and take a class picture during this time.
- This event takes place from 3-5 p.m. under Stopher-Johnson Honors Complex bridge lounge area facing Taylor Field.
Exploratory Learning Community Kickoff
- Come and meet the other students in the Exploratory Learning Community at the Exploratory Learning Community Meet and Greet!
- During the event, you can get free giveaways, meet other Exploratory students, play some games, and look toward the year ahead!
- This event will take place from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Lake Hall Lounge.
CommUNITY Lab Meet & Greet
- Are you a member of CommUNITY Lab? If so, come visit the CommUNITY Lab Lounge in the Center for Undergraduate Excellence (CUE), Room 132. Meet the CLab staff, explore the space, and enjoy a quick snack!

Hillel Ice Cream Social
- Come stop by Hillel, meet new friends, and get a free ice cream!
- This event takes place from 5-7 p.m. at Kent Hillel: 613 East Summit Street.

DIY at the Design Innovation Hub
- Join Design Innovation and LaunchNET for a fun make-and-take open house at the Design Innovation Hub where you will get the chance to explore our REACTOR makerspace and bring home your own creations (magnets, buttons, bag charms, and tote bags- while supplies last).
- This event takes place from 4-6 p.m. at the Design Innovation Hub, REACTOR (Room 150).
Bingo With FAB!
- The event will be limited to the first 1,000 students (no RSVPs). Prizes for winners after each round. Prizes in the past have included a Nintendo Switch, an iPad, and Squishmallows!
- This event is free and open for all to attend!

- CARES Center Welcome to Campus Coffee Bar will provide iced coffee and beverages to welcome students to campus.

KSU Kickoff Commuter Check-In
- This event is required for all first-year students classified as commuting to and from campus. This is your opportunity to learn about the KSU Kickoff schedule and meet with 91ֿ staff and students to get your questions answered.
- Students should attend this event based on their personal availability between the hours 8 a.m. - 9 a.m.
- Location is the Kent Student Center Hub (on the first floor of the Kent Student Center)
- Check-in times are not assigned; however, attendance will be recorded upon student arrival.
- Student guides will be present on the first floor of the Kent Student Center at 9:15 a.m. after this check-in concludes to take students to their Dean's Welcome location, which starts at 9:30 a.m.
Escort to Dean’s Welcome
- Need assistance locating your Dean's Welcome location? Stop by Risman Plaza right in front of the Kent Student Center between 9 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. Here, Peer Success Mentors (PSMs) will escort students to their specific Dean's Welcome location by college.
Dean’s Welcome
- Come together with other students in your college to meet your Dean. You'll build some pride for your major and new academic home before going to Convocation together. All new students are required to attend the Dean's Welcome for their respective college.
- These events will take place from 9:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. at various locations.
- Check out the KSU Kickoff app in the event schedule for more information. Please search by college.
Convocation
- This event is required for all new students. Convocation introduces incoming first-year students to the administration of the university and serves as their first academic ceremony. This event will take place at the MACC and will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Make Your MarK (K Picture)
- This event is required for all first-year students. Class of 2029! Follow your Peer Success Mentors (PSMs) from Convocation in the Memorial Athletic Convocation Center (MACC) to Manchester Field for your class photo! The “K” picture will promptly begin at 11:30 a.m.
First-Year Student Lunch
- This event is required for all first-year students. Head to the Kent Student Center directly after the Class of 2029 photo for lunch provided by University Culinary Services.
- Make sure to have your FLASHcard on hand.
- This event will take place from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom and/or Room 218 (of the student center).
Flashes 101
- On Friday, Aug. 15 (1:30 - 3 p.m.) you will participate in your Flashes 101 class! Your room location for this first session is determined by your Fall Flashes 101 course section.
- To locate your specific section, time, and location, please use the following:
- To find your location/time using the above room locator, use one of the following search criteria below (Course Section UC-10097-XXX <-- Must enter only all three digits OR Faculty name) found on your Fall schedule.
- All students will be walking downtown to Flashes First Friday, a required KSU Kickoff event, with their class sections after their first Flashes 101 session on Friday, Aug. 15. More details about the Flashes First Friday event can be found in the KSU Kickoff app and will be communicated during this first class section.
Cool Pops in the CUE with the Dean (University College)
- Mini Handel Ice Cream Pops in a variety of flavors for the Interim Dean to pass out the afternoon after Convocation and a full morning of other campus events.
- Make sure to stop by Downtown Kent after this event for Flashes First Friday (more details in the app)!
- This event will take place from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Center for Undergraduate Excellence.
Flashes First Friday
- All students are welcomed to an event in downtown Kent where students can get to know the area and the shops/services available to them as members of the Kent community.
- This event is required and the completion of the event's incentive activity will be tracked as attendance.
- Also, come for raffle prizes, food, music, and much more!
- Will have an incentive activity on hand for students to participate in that will have them explore the different businesses downtown in order to possibly win raffle prizes and the exclusive event shirt upon completion.
- This event will take place starting at E. Erie Street where you will check in at anytime between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., to N. Water Street, where you will turn in the completion of the incentive activity by 5:30 p.m., to all of downtown Kent in between.
- Students participating in Flashes 101 on this date will walk down to this event after their first-class session!
Picnic Shabbat on Campus with Hillel
- Join Kent Hillel for your first Friday night on campus. Meet on the K (Risman Plaza) for friends and food.
- This event takes place from 5-6:30 p.m.
Late Night at the Library
- Kick off the school year with Late Night at The Library on Friday, Aug. 15 from 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. at the Library!
- You can party with friends over free pizza and Handel’s ice cream!
- Enjoy dancing to a live DJ, games, Esports, giveaways, and more.
- The event theme is GLOW, so bring your light-up gear and join the fun at the biggest party on campus!

Kayaking and Tubing with Adventure Center
- The Adventure Center will be offering free kayak lessons and river tubing at Tannery Park (near the Farmer’s Market).
- Learn kayaking skills or take a leisurely float down the historic and beautiful Cuyahoga River on an inflatable tube.
- Friendly Adventure Center staff will be there to assist you. Enclosed shoes or sandals with a back strap are required.
- Meet up at the DeWeese Health Center to catch a free trolley ride, SPIN bike or scooter lesson or get a walking map to the launch spot.
- 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Tannery Park - downtown Kent (100 Stow Rd.).
Flashes Flourish Health Fair
- Join the DeWeese Health Center, 91ֿ of Well-Being, Recreation and Wellness Services, CARES Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, College of Public Health, SRVSS, SPIN, and the Kent City Health Department for the Flashes Flourish Health Fair.
- This event is a great opportunity to get to know your health and well-being resources on and around campus. All departments above will offer free giveaways while supplies last!
- This event will be held in the DeWeese Health Center parking lot on Saturday, August 16 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
- Gather with your friends to board the trolley or SPIN downtown to the Haymaker Farmer’s Market or to the free Adventure Center kayaking and tubing trip from the DeWeese Health Center parking lot.
Haymaker Farmers’ Market Trip with the 91ֿ of Well-Being
- Did you know Portage county’s oldest producer’s only farmers market is right in your backyard?!
- Let the 91ֿ of Well-being guide you on your first trip to stock up on yummy, prepared foods, locally grown fruits and veggies, fresh cut flowers, roasted coffee, handmade soaps, art and more!
- Walk around to learn about the local farming community and meet friendly local makers.
- Meet us at our Well Hut tent at the DeWeese Health Center parking lot to hop on the free trolley, get a free SPIN bike and scooter lesson or obtain a map to walk downtown on your own between 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
- Free shopping bags to carry your great finds while supplies last!
- 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. - Meet us at our blue and gold Well Hut tent at the DeWeese Health Center.
Open Skating at the Ice Arena
- Stop by the Ice Arena to enjoy some ice skating on the main rink. Skates will be available to rent at no charge on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- This event occurs from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Fraternity and Sorority Life Festival
- Come out to FSL FEST and meet all 31 of 91ֿ's fraternities and sororities!
- The Interfraternity Council (IFC), College Panhellenic Council (CPC), and United Greek Council (UGC) chapters cannot wait to meet you!
- They will have inflatables, yard games, snow cones, and more!
- FSL Fest is from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Tri Towers Rotunda.

RecWellcome Back Party
- Come experience lots of games, activities, prizes and fun!
- Activities include food trucks, rappelling from the indoor track, archery, rock climbing, sand volleyball, basketball, DJ patio party and more!
- Tours and free equipment orientations will also be available to help you become familiar with the SRWC.
- Participants will receive a passport to use for chances to win prizes including t-shirts, water bottles, hammocks, gift certificates and more!
- 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. – Beverly J. Warren Student Recreation and Wellness Center
Dive-in Movie
- Lilo & Stitch (2025) will be the movie shown!
- Join your peers for an evening of fun at the RecWellcome Back Dive-in Movie at the SRWC Natatorium.
- Immerse yourself in an unforgettable experience. You will not want to miss the excitement as we project the movie, creating a magical atmosphere in the water.
- Swim, float, and relax while enjoying this box office hit!
- Fantastic snacks will be available to add to the fun.

Transfer Student Welcome
- Please note that if you are a transfer student new to 91ֿ, checking in to this event is required.
- University Orientation and Visit Experience and the Center for Student Involvement invite all new transfer students to a special welcome reception.
- Reconnect with the TKS Ambassadors you met at orientation, meet and mingle with other incoming transfer students, get some KSU swag and play some games all while enjoying some Handel's ice-cream and other treats.
- This event will take place from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. in room 218 of the Kent Student Center.
- Students can attend at any point during this period. Please note for students that stay to the end of this event, are free to join a walking group that will go to Blastoff directly afterwards.
Women's Soccer vs. Duquesne University
- Come on out to the Women's Soccer Home Opener at Dix Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m.
Blastoff
- Meet us at the Risman Plaza and Student Green on Sunday, Aug. 17 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. for a chance to meet student organizations (over 200), learn about ways to get involved on campus, play games, win prizes, snag exclusive giveaways, talk with various campus departments and services, and create new friendships!

- CAVS is hosting a Welcome Back Open House on Wednesday, August 20 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in their office (room 181 of the Schwartz Center).
- Staff will be on hand to answer questions from financial aid, advising, Student Accessibility Services (SAS), CAVS, and the Academic Success Center.

Popsicles and Positivity
- Join the Kent Student Ambassadors for a fun and exciting start to the school year! Come hang out with them as they spread positivity around campus.
- They will be chalking the sidewalks and writing encouraging messages to help kick off the semester on a high note! Yard games, music, and popsicles will be included.
- You will also have the opportunity to learn more about what the Student Ambassadors do to serve the University – and discover how you can get involved too!
- Their Instagram is @kentambassador for tagging!
- This event takes place from 1 – 2 p.m. outside of the Tri-Towers Rotunda.
FAB's Picnic with a Purpose: Mamma Mia Edition
- This event will be filled with fun food, service projects, and a showing of the movie Mamma Mia.
- The is teaming up with for this event!
- The major giveaway will include beach towels (first 100 attendees). The grand raffle prize for completing a certain amount of service projects is a Nintendo Switch!
- The picnic will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Risman Plaza/Student Green.
- Mamma Mia will be shown outside at the Student Green at 8 p.m.
