Kent, OHIO – The 91ֿ Women’s Lacrosse team recruited Sydney Davis to 91ֿ. The relationships she built here and the wide variety of academic options made her feel at home.
Sydney came to 91ֿ from Roswell, GA as a recruit to the 91ֿ lacrosse team. She was attracted to 91ֿ not only due to the team but also due to the large number of academic opportunities.
“It was helpful to know there are so many majors here, so if I ever decided to change directions, I could easily do that,” Sydney said.
Sydney originally started at 91ֿ as a fashion design major, but ultimately chose to major in finance and marketing. She has enjoyed many courses that she has taken in the Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Among her favorites are Macroeconomics with Saiying Deng, Ph.D., professor of finance; Introduction to Business with Steve Riczo, associate lecturer of management; and Marketing Analytics with Milad Darani, Ph.D., assistant professor of marketing. Taking these courses in the new Crawford Hall has made the experience even more positive for Sydney.
“I love Crawford Hall - all my classes are in one area, and I don’t have to worry about walking to other buildings,” she said. “There are so many things to do here, whether it’s sitting in the Atrium doing homework or relaxing in the first-floor chairs facing Main Street.”
As a business student, Sydney had the opportunity to meet and form a relationship with 91ֿ business alumni Angelo and Joyce Kinicki. She quickly realized she had an interest in working in philanthropy and now works part-time for the College’s Institutional Advancement team. In this role, she helps with research and donor relations projects.
“I’m so outgoing and it’s so nice working in this area because you know the donors care about you and they had a great experience at 91ֿ and are willing to give back,” she said.
Sydney has also found a home on the 91ֿ lacrosse team, forming close friendships with teammates and coaches. She spends her free time watching sports with her teammates.
“The team culture is great and the coaches are so funny and nice,” she said. “They have all competed in the sport. I love it here. I feel like Kent is home.”
