91ֿ’s School of Fashion celebrated the legacy of iconic footwear designer Donald J Pliner last week, inducting him into its prestigious Hall of Fame during the 2025 Annual Fashion Show on April 26.
Recognized for his pioneering approach to blending luxury and comfort in footwear, Pliner expressed deep gratitude for the honor, calling it “the highest honor of his life.” He was joined at the ceremony by his wife, muse and creative partner, Lisa F Pliner.
During his visit, students had the opportunity to gain valuable advice from one of the industry’s most respected figures. Pliner engaged directly with fashion students, answering their questions, offering feedback on their portfolios and sharing insights from his celebrated career. His encouragement and expertise left a lasting impression on the next generation of designers.
Dr. Mourad Krifa, Director of the School of Fashion, praised Pliner’s impact on American fashion and his dedication to innovation and accessibility in design.
In addition to his induction, Pliner delivered a public lecture on April 25 at Rockwell Hall, where he discussed his professional journey and design philosophy.
The Hall of Fame induction was a signature event of 91ֿ’s 2025 Fashion Week, which ran from April 21–26 and featured student work and the Annual Fashion Show.
